Way of the Shinobi

In the shadows of a moonlit castle, the buxom young shinobi of Hanzō National Academy face their rival shinobi students from Hebijo Clandestine Girls' Academy. But their covert battle of good and evil is only a pretext for a darker plot, as the Hebijo girls' diabolical puppetmaster seeks to harness their bloodshed for power beyond imagination. Now, as his plague of summoned demons spreads across Japan, the rival girls find themselves on the same side. Thrown together into unlikely pairs, the bubbly heroines and wily renegades face an army of hideous foes.

Meanwhile, two mysterious newcomers look on from the sidelines. One is a young girl, who brightens up the room with her cheerful innocence, and who happens to have a sweet tooth…for the hearts of demons. The other is her devoted guardian, a warrior monk who will stop at nothing to see the child fulfill her terrible destiny.

So begins an all-out war with the underworld itself. If the girls can put aside their differences for long enough to make a stand, Japan just might survive…but their clothes probably won't.

Secret Academies

For centuries, Japan's rulers and dynasties, its ventures and wars, have all hinged upon the deeds of its infamous hidden warriors, the shinobi. In modern times, the shinobi still live in the shadows, recruiting from Japan's youth and training them in the ancient arts of stealth and steel.

To ordinary folk, shinobi are ruthless, merciless killers, but in truth, not all of them fit that description. "Good" shinobi, as they're known to their peers, work only for the authorities, and fight to uphold the law. Their enemies, the so-called "evil" shinobi, work for the highest bidder and obey no rules but their own.

Throughout Japan, many shinobi schools exist in secret, often operating from within regular establishments such as public schools and private academies. The Hanzō National Academy, named for its legendary founder, trains many of Japan's most promising good shinobi, while the Hebijo Clandestine Girls' Academy, built into an ancient castle, is proud to train their evil counterparts.

In SENRAN KAGURA Burst the Hanzō girls, led by the fearless optimist Asuka, have come into conflict with their Hebijo rivals, led by the relentless Homura. The Hebijo girls have tricked the youngest Hanzō student, Hibari, into giving up the school's prized Super-Secret Ninja Scroll. To restore their school's pride and honor, the Hanzō girls prepare to raid their rivals and steal the Scroll back. But all is not as it seems, and soon, their blood will sparkle in the moonlight...

As a shinobi, her sense of justice is very strong, but she tempers that strength with compassion for one and all. She is bright and optimistic, and holds unwavering faith in her friends, all of whom lean on her for moral support.

She stands to inherit her adoptive family's shinobi lineage, and is always at odds with her brother because of that. She has enjoyed a privileged education, and is well versed in tea ceremony and traditional Japanese cuisine — though she has tried to be creative in her cooking now and again, with decidedly mixed results. Ikaruga is normally very kind and thoughtful, but when her emotions run high, no one can touch her.

On her serious side, she aims to be the shinobi world's strongest fighter, and pours her every effort into that goal without regret.

Due to a certain incident, she feels for Hibari as a sister and has begun opening up her heart to her.

Deep down, she is very serious and straight-laced, but she sometimes loses control and will go round and round without making any progress. Her friends, though usually happy to follow her, sometimes find her exhausting for that reason.

She does carry a strong grudge against the rich, and thus sees Ikaruga, who comes from a wealthy family, as the enemy. Her fighting style involves a large sword, much larger than she is, and barrages of cannon fire. She loves bean sprouts.

But since her friends' emotions are always writ large, she takes an interest in the concept of emotions, at least in an academic sense. Her knife dishes out high-speed attacks, carving up her enemies in a brutal fashion.

Despite the way she struggles against her seniors, she seems more or less comfortable where she is...except for the complex she has over her figure. In battle, she exhibits a twisted fighting style, launching flames and projectiles out of her umbrella.

She loves to experiment; even her fighting style features the use of chemicals.

She originally had a very bright and optimistic personality and was aiming to be a Super Ninja. Her weapon is a large folding shuriken.

His weapon is a chain-sickle, with which he proudly took sixth place in a local tournament one time, and has never let anyone forget it.
